Collective Gatherings

Kate Preston McAndrew

Co-Founder and GP at Baukunst

This is part 3 of 4 covering features of the formal collective membership we just announced.

At Baukunst, we gather regularly to share important conversations, areas of inquiry, and works in progress. The art of building is a lifelong pursuit that we strive to advance collectively.

The collective gathers both in real life and on the internet. In each case, we aim to create containers that foster open and honest exchange and allow us to share process as much as (if not more than) outcomes.

Baukunst Creative Technologist Conference

Once a year, the whole collective is invited to come together for two days to connect in person and share what they’ve been working on. Talks bend towards unannounced projects, creative pursuits, and celebrations of milestones.

Sync Calls

Each quarter, collective members are invited to join a virtual call to sync on what we’re up to, with a focus on investment activity. The Baukunst GPs share all new investment activity as well as roll up fund stats to date. New portfolio companies often get a chance to introduce themselves, and we may share in-process thesis areas.

The Directory, Slack, Figma & Social

The Directory is an internal listing of all collective members, their respective areas of expertise, and how they want to contribute.

We use Slack selectively to discuss studios, chat about potential investments , share hot talent tips, and make announcements & asks of one another.

As a visual bunch, we love collaborative whiteboards and often spin up Figma boards for distinct projects.

We share what we’re up to with the public on instagram, linkedin, and x.

Ongoing Events

Baukunst curates regular events, often in collaboration with other organizations, institutions, and individuals who inspire us. Together, we’ve danced at the Eagle Creek Salon by Sadie Barnet (SFMOMA), raised money for The Feminist Center for Creative Work, vibed out to Earthling in Golden Gate Park, torn apart infinite electronics at The Teardown Library, and much much more.

Our goal is for the collective to feel like a decentralized studio. If you’re interested in collaborating with the collective to make magic happen, please reach out.

Last but not least...the importance of storytelling.
