Baukunst Portfolio Company Motif Announces $46M in Funding to Transform AEC

We’re thrilled to share Motif’s $46 million funding announcement, a company in the Baukunst portfolio founded by former Autodesk co-CEO and Chief Product Officer Amar Hanspal. Baukunst was the first to commit funding to Motif, and participated in the seed and series A.
Motif’s mission is to revolutionize building design by fusing geometry, cloud services, and machine learning into a software that allows for more seamless team collaboration, responsive and dynamic models, task automation, and more. “Digital tools play an important role in the collaborative, iterative process necessary to deliver a well-designed building,” Hanspal shared in a recent founder vision statement. “However, the evolution of these tools over the past 25 years has been disappointingly stagnant. While software for fields like gaming, product design and customer support has embraced intuitive interfaces, real-time collaboration, and AI-driven automation, tools for the building industry remain hopelessly rooted in technology from the late 1990s.”
This innovation comes at a critical moment for the $13 trillion architecture and construction industry, where complex projects require better communication tools to coordinate the many collaborators and stakeholders involved. Architects and engineers also need more advanced, assistive technologies to build efficiently in an era where construction is responsible for 40% of global energy use and up to 40% of greenhouse gas emissions. “We’re building something that will directly impact lives and the future of our planet,” says Hanspal.
Motif has also secured investment from Redpoint and Capital G further validating the opportunity to bring long-overdue technological progress to a large market.
