Women in Hardware x Level Design SF

Come with me to San Francisco for our latest Women in Hardware event.

Women in Hardware is the premier community for women and non-binary people building groundbreaking products and companies at the intersection of the digital and physical world. I started the group in 2015 and it is the largest and longest running group of technical women in the hardware ecosystem.

We met at level, a west coast, woman-led industrial design shop in the Mission neighborhood. Level designs timeless products people love, and they were named one of Fast Co’s most innovative companies. Level Founder and Creative Director Nichole Nichole Rouillac is a collective member, and she told us about a recent project, the Nex Playground.

The Nex Playground is an active game system designed for the whole family. It uses AI and computer vision to track your whole body’s movement turning screen time into active play time for both kids and parents. The form is retro, recalling a Rubik’s cube, but the color material and finish (CMF) make it feel elevated and chic enough to be proudly displayed in a contemporary living room.

We loved hearing that Nex hired level both because of their expertise, and because Nichole is a mom and really understands the customer.
